Before You Begin
- Your frame is pre-attached to a clear PVC backer sheet.
- Do not touch the clear areas where resin will go. Oils from hands, lotion, or sanitizer can interfere with curing.
Step 1: Paint the Frame
- Use a small brush and acrylic paint to dry brush the frame.
- The frame acts as your “leading,” so metallic or black paints give the most traditional stained-glass look.
- Let dry completely.
Step 2: Prepare for Resin
- Always wear gloves when working with resin.
- Cover your workspace and make sure it is level.
Step 3: Mix Your Resin
- Follow the directions on your resin bottles.
- Do not use UV resin for this project — it will not cure properly.
- Add mica powder or India ink for color (about 5% pigment to resin).
- Tip: Alcohol inks are not recommended as they fade over time.

- Mix each color in a small cup or use pipettes for precise pouring.
Step 4: Add Resin to the Frame
- Carefully pour or drip colored resin into the open sections of the frame.
- Optional: sprinkle crushed glass into a few sections before adding resin for extra sparkle.
Step 5: Cure the Piece
- Place the piece on a baking rack or other surface that allows airflow.
- Let it cure for 24–48 hours.
Step 6: Trim the Backer (Optional)
- Once cured, use a sharp craft knife or scissors to trim excess PVC around the frame.
- If the backer comes off completely, it’s fine — but leaving it adds durability and support.
Step 7: Display
- To hang: tape or glue a thread loop to the back.
- Or lean it on a shelf or windowsill with an LED candle behind it for a glowing effect.
- Avoid direct sunlight or hot windows, as resin can fade or soften if not fully cured.

⚠️ Safety Reminder
Always follow the safety instructions provided with your chosen resin. Use gloves, work in a well-ventilated area, and avoid direct skin contact. Maker Frames provides frames and kit components only — resin use is at your discretion.
